AECT Research and Theory Division Nomination Solicitation for President Elect Candidates
Dear Member of the Research and Theory Division of the AECT,
The Research and Theory Division of the AECT is still seekingnominations for individuals to serve as candidates for the office ofPresident Elect in 2010-2011. The President Elect becomes part of theR&T board, and serves subsequent terms as the President andPast-President. As such, the R&T President Elect will have thepotential to make a substantial impact on planning and strategicdirection for the division over the next several years. We are seekingindividuals who would like to make a meaningful contribution to thefurther development of the Research and Theory division.
In addition we are seeking nominations for a board member at large anda student board member at large. If you would like to nominate yourself or a colleague to any of theseposts, please contact me (moored3@ohio.edu) as soon as possible.

Special Events - AECT Convention in Louisville, KY
1) AECT Division and Affiliate Welcome Reception
- Wednesday - 10/28/09 -
Following the closing of the First General Session
Join in the fun to meet up with your long-standing colleagues and take an opportunity meet and welcome AECT convention first timers. Each AECT Division and/or Affiliated Organizations will be represented to answer questions regarding division/affiliated organizations planned for the upcoming year. Many dinner groups will form after the reception to carry on the evening.
2) Research & Theory Division and Design & Development Division Awards Luncheon - $30.00 - Thursday - 10/29/09 - 11:45 AM - 12:45 PM
Along with the Design & Development Division, the Research & Theory Divisions will present our annual awards recognizing outstanding achievements in the instructional design and research fields.
3) Relaxin' on the River - River Steamboat Cruise- $25.00 - Friday - 10/30/09 - Boarding begins at 8:00 PM for the 8:30 - 10:30 PM cruise.
Join the ECT Foundation aboard the oldest operating river steamboat in the U.S.Docked steps away from the Galt House, our Convention Hotel, this evening's cruise
offers you a memorable way to wind down this year's AECT Convention. View the cityscape as night descends; enjoy a variety of desserts while listening or dancing to the
music of AECT members Tom Atkinson, Greg Clinton and friends; explore the historic vessel; listen to the rush of water and the steady rhythm of the paddle wheel; all while
relaxing with your AECT friends and helping raise funds for ECT Foundation funded awards and scholarships. This is an evening event not to be missed!
Seating is limited so add your ticket to your registration for the 2009 AECT International Convention in Louisville.

Dean and Sybil McClusky Research Award
The ECT Foundation's Dean and Sybil McClusky Research Award is presented to honor the most outstanding doctoral research proposal in educational technology, as selected by a jury of researchers from the Research and Theory Division of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT).
The awardee receives a cash award of $500 with a plaque of achievement presented during the awards ceremony at the 2009 annual convention to be held October 27-31, 2009 at Galt House Hotel and Suites (http://www.galthouse.com/), Louisville, Kentucky.
Criteria: Submitted proposals may follow acceptable formats of individual schools but must include at least:
1.The definition of the problem including a statement of significance.
2.A review of pertinent literature.
3.Research hypothesis to be examined.
4.Research design and procedures including statistical techniques.
Applicants must be presently enrolled in a doctoral program in educational technology and have obtained committee acceptance of their proposal.
Intention Statement:The winner will be expected to sign a statement of the effect that he/she will complete the proposed doctoral study in accordance with the sponsoring university's graduate school policies (including any time limitations) or be required to return the award received.
Deadline:Deadline for nominations is August 28th, 2009.
Submission Procedure:Prepare a cover letter that briefly discuss the background of your research project and include both yours and you advisor's contact information. Your proposal must be within 2000 words. The title page and the references are not included in this word count. Make sure that you address the criteria for this award in your proposal.
